Economic development

On the 29th of March 2008, the municipality of Prokuplje adopted the Strategy of Sustainable Development, which includes the

documents: the Strategy of the Local Economic Development, LEAP, and the Local Action Plan for Children.

One of the main steps towards the local economic development is to have a clear development strategy, in order to engage the existing and to develop new economic capacities, to create conditions for new investments, improve productivity and competitiveness of the local economic subjects, reduce unemployment, and raise the standard of living of the citizens.

Economic circumstances in the municipality, after certain results of the process of reconstruction and privatization were achieved, are not on the level with which the citizens, the business sector, and the local community would be satisfied. That is why the initial steps towards creation of an efficient business environment have been taken as well as the initiative to work out the Strategy of the Local Economic Development.

It has been demonstrated that the quality and innovative character of products and services are important factors of competitiveness both on the domestic and on the international markets, and satisfactory competitiveness of Prokuplje economy would be the one that will enable growing effects of the manufacturers (profit growth) as well as an adequate climate for direct foreign investments.

The municipality of Prokuplje has great natural potentials that have not been sufficiently utilized, and the goal of the Strategy of the Local Economic Development is to analyze the existing development potentials, to undertake their valorization, and establish guidelines for their best-quality utilization. For the purpose of the best possible implementation of this goal, the cooperation between the public, private, and non-governmental sectors will be necessary.

The Strategy of the Local Economic Development of the Municipality of Prokuplje has been worked out for the period of 2007 - 2011.

The strategic plan contains a part, which is related to the profile of the community and the strategic part, which includes the key areas of development, goals, projects, and action plans.

The Strategy of the Local Economic Development is in compliance with the National Strategy of Serbia, the Poverty Reduction Strategy, and the Long-term Indicative Planning Document.
